We humans are talking more and more that we must live in the now. We try hard but we are constantly worrying about the weather , about finances, about finding our soul mate and the list goes on and on.

Anticipation, what a great human quality! Planning our future is all very good but as we do that are we truly enjoying the day or we are thinking that we will enjoy when we retire? Goals, goals and more goals, as we plan our future we tend to forget about our children, our friends and love ones.

Enjoy your friends and family as it this is the last day of your life, never forget to tell them how important they are to you and how much you love them!

The question arises: how do we balance work and play?  I believe there is only one word AWARENESS . We need to moderate each aspect of our life. Work, food intake, fun. How to achieve this balance?

Yoga, meditation, contemplation are the tools we use for the purpose helping us to expand our awareness helping us to live a more balance happier life and cultivate a more peaceful, joyful mind.

Why don’t you join us ?

Right or wrong actions can be determined by suffering or non suffering. Very simple, what causes suffering to ourselves and others is the wrong thing to do. Whatever brings well being to ourselves or others is the right thing to do. It is of extreme importance to sit everyday and to look at ourselves to review our actions and to understand what is the energy that pushes us to move and act in the way we do.

All human beings have the energies of love and compassion within themselves. How do we find that complete wholesome energy to guide our actions?

I believe that the intention behind our actions is the fuel that we need to accomplish a life of love , happiness and joy. Understanding  and compassion lead us into the path of happiness.

We must cultivate a strong desire to help others. What is the intention behind our jobs and businesses? Are we creating a better world? Are we making other’s people’s lives more peaceful, joyful?

We do not have to become monks for this purpose, we can do it here and now in our own circle of friends and relatives. First we nurture all of that joy, happiness and bliss within ourselves and then we share that with other beings.

We practice meditation but that does not mean that we have no more fears and that everything is perfect but through this practice we learn  to look at our own emotions, embrace them and  later transform them into love, compassion and understanding. We go back and take care of our own consciousness.

Do not run away from pain, it is there for all of us to experience but know also that happiness is possible.

The Buddha’s Four Noble Truths say:

1 – Suffering exists

2 – Suffering has causes

3 – Happiness is possible

4 – There is a Path that leads to happiness

We do not have to be afraid of suffering , we must confront it  and only after that we transform it.

We always have to go back to ourselves, first recognizing the suffering within ourselves, embrace it, transform it and only after we can be there for our families, company, friends, school and community.

Power is of extreme importance specially to increased our happiness and the one of others. Next time you can take a moment to reflect on your life look at the intention behind your job, your actions and your whole life in general. There is nothing wrong with making money but it is much better if we make it in a way that it is not destructive. We must use our money to help others to achieve a better, more peaceful life.

What are we doing for the benefit of humankind and the environment?

Every yoga class is teaching us to live in the moment. Many of us do but at the same time we live in anticipation of paying the next bill, or the weather coming up in the weekend or if our soul mate is finally going to arrive. It is very easy to be in the now during yoga class since the teacher is guiding us  through the practice of postures and pranayama even during relaxation and meditation but the question is, can we practice yoga outside the mat?

Human being have been trained to plan for the future and I see nothing wrong with that but we are missing the very important part that as we do plan for the future we still need to enjoy now, right this moment is truly all we have and we are missing it because we plan for what could even be a total fantasy.

We are so preoccupied with tomorrow that we loose connection with our love ones, family and friends. Don’t you think that we need to change our lifestyle ? Why don’t we live like if this is our last day in this body?

Sometimes we become to fixated in completion of task like homework  and then we realize how much joy have we missed all along. I strongly support good work ethics but that does not mean stop living for one task we have to do.

After everything is said and done the question remains, how do we balance play and work? Isn’t work supposed to be part of fun and enjoyment?

It comes back to moderation, balance. Working hard will run us down, playing hard and life passes us by.

The words that keeps coming back to me are balance, determination, moderation. Aren’t these words parts of the Yoga Principles?

We always have a choice to enjoy life, some of us sleep throughout and some of us are present in each day in each moment. What choice would you like to take?

Practicing Yoga with Samkalpa (determination), stay with the practice and begin to realize each moment.

Meditation is the most amazing technique to find peace in our lives. It leads the mind from a busy restless state to an higher state that is clear and steady. Science continues to do studies on meditators and they  always  come up with the same results which are: improve health, reduce high blood pressure and stress hormones. You must understand that meditation needs to be practiced  on a regular basis. You must be persistent and repeat it over and over again.
