About Sunshine Yoga Academy

Sunshine Yoga Academy opened in 1999 in Mirta’s basement. The space held enough room for only 4 yoga mats. When word spread about Mirta’s teachings she had to renovate her basement in hopes that with the extra room would accommodate all her students. However, six months later she still needed a bigger space. Continuing in the pursuit of her dream of having a variety of Hollistic services under one roof, Mirta found the perfect location in 2005. Since then the studio and the centre continue to experience nothing but growth and expansion. Some of the visitors to the studio have included Swami Veda and Pandit Da Bral. Pandit Da Bral visited the studio to bless the students and to give them the gifts of a personal mantra and invite them into the lineage of sages.

Our aim as human beings is to unfold our personality and be able to reach the goal of coming face to face with the Self.

We have made lots of technological progress but still we do not know how to live in peace.

Fear, anger, jealousy and many other negative emotions prevent us from finding not only peace but also the understanding of all humanity as one.

When we start walking the Path of Yoga, The Royal Path also called Ashtanga Yoga or the Yoga of the 8 Limbs we begin to discover the delights of the internal life, with peace, love and compassion in our hearts. This frees us up from a polluted mind, dropping our egos and realizing that we truly are beings of Love.

There is a lot of suffering in this world but we can help alleviate that suffering by transforming our personalities and being of service to others.

At Sunshine Yoga Academy we learn all the steps towards finding Truth from the understanding and practice of Ahimsa, non-harming up to Samadhi, the perfect state of bliss, happiness and joy.

Through our practice we cultivate:

The Path of the eight Limbs

  1. Discipline (yama)
  2. Restraint (niyama)
  3. Posture (asanas)
  4. Breath control ( pranayama)
  5. Sense withdrawal (pratyahara)
  6. Concentration ( dharana)
  7. Meditation (dhyana)
  8. Ecstasy (Samadhi)

Lets walk the path of Self Realization by learning how to practice and by achieving non-attachment

The undisciplined person does not succeed in Yoga. – Yoga Varttika (2.1)

A quote from Swami Rama

“Each time that you climb to a higher vantage point the range of your vision is enlarged and your understanding of your entire situation is altered. You see things from a more emcompassing perspective which allows you to be less concerned and anxious and enables you to relate to your environment in terms of how it really is rather than in terms of how you imagined it to be from a more limited point of view.”
